Promote Literacy and the Love of Reading With Your Own Little Free Library”
Little Free Library is a worldwide movement that is aimed to increase literacy of all generations through free book exchanges across communities. Nancy Miller is both a local real estate broker based in La Grange and a fellow resident of La Grange Park for over 30 years. With the dedication that comes from this level of involvement in the local community, she is also proud to share that the Village of La Grange Park is one of the towns participating in the Little Free Library movement. Nancy Miller knows that there’s more to real estate than helping buyers and sellers with their homes. It’s also about knowing the communities that you serve. That’s why Nancy takes pride in sharing her knowledge of the resources villages like La Grange Park have to offer.
What exactly is a “Little Free Library”?
According to Little Free Library’s website: “Little Free Library is a nonprofit organization that inspires a love of reading, builds community, and sparks creativity by fostering neighborhood book exchanges around the world. Through Little Free Libraries, millions of books are exchanged each year, profoundly increasing access to books for readers of all ages and backgrounds.”
The books themselves are housed in weather resistant sheds, which are often themed toward a favorite book of the home owner’s, or may resemble the actual house that the library shed sits in front of. The goal above all else is to keep the books readily accessible and to see our community’s literacy skyrocket.
How Do I Get a Little Free Library at My Home?
You may purchase a “ready made” Little Free Library shed, or construct one of your own. The Village of La Grange Park, IL requires a permit to install your library. Your library shed needs to be approved, however, all that’s needed is a picture or drawing of your proposed box to do so.
